Tattoo Removal Options and Alternatives
You’re ready to get rid of an unwanted work of body art and are deciding upon the best course of action. You’ve received opinions from friends and others, maybe TikTok, but you want insight from those in-the-know. You also need a solution that is available where you live, which is here in Vancouver BC. So what are your tattoo removal options and alternatives? While there is ultimately only one recommended course of action (we’ll get to that below) we feel that it’s important to address the ones being marketed to you, so that you also know what to avoid. Let’s review!
3 Tattoo Removal Alternatives and 1 That is the Only Option to Consider for Your Health and Safety
——————————————————
Dermabrasion (avoid)
There are cosmetic clinics located everywhere from West Broadway to West Vancouver that claim to offer effective tattoo removal through dermabrasion.
Dermabrasion is a process by which the skin (with the tattoo on it) is sanded down to deeper levels of the epidermis with a high-speed rotary device that employs an abrasive wheel or brush. Yes, you read that right - your skin would be sanded down. Sure, they generally numb the area first, but does that provide you with peace of mind? Sorry, but sanding is for wood furniture and cast iron pans, not human skin. The potential for scarring (physical and emotional) and infection is too high with this supposed tattoo removal option.
Surgical Removal (avoid)
Sanding not for you? How does slicing the layer of skin off sound? That’s what surgical tattoo excision is. It’s a one-time procedure done by a scalpel wielding plastic surgeon. The procedure generally takes from one to several hours, depending on the size of the tattoo and the surgeon's “repair” method. This not-so-attractive tattoo removal alternative comes with all of the risks of any surgery, and can also lead to significant scaring and longterm discoloration of the area.
Q-Switch Laser (avoid)
We’re honestly surprised to find that cosmetic laser clinics and tattoo studios market the fact that they offer Q-switch laser as the preferred option for tattoo removal. Do they not care to invest in better technology for their clients and patients? In every reputable comparison, Q-switch “tech” loses to the state-of-the-art PicoSure (a picosecond laser) which operates at one trillionth of a second, and has a pulse width that is 100 times faster than that of the Q-Switch laser. The result is typically fewer sessions, greater client comfort, better results, and faster healing time. We understand that Q-Switch was once the gold-standard, but what’s the excuse for not making the switch (pun intended) once picosecond technology superseded it?
The NIXX System (recommended)
The NIXX laser tattoo removal system is the superior of laser tattoo removal options in Vancouver BC. In addition to our investment (for YOU) in the PicoSure system (view more here) we have brought in one of North America’s top laser tattoo removal technicians, Craig Gilbert, who leads the team at NIXX and has trained the other technicians in the art of using PicoSure technology.
